It didn't start with a business plan. It started with a volunteer shift.
Spell Shield was born in the trenches. While volunteering our time with non-profits, we saw a dangerous pattern: the organisations doing the most critical work were often operating with the weakest defences, hamstrung by tight budgets, outdated tools, and a lack of strategic guidance.
We realised that “security” had become a luxury product. That wasn’t right.
So we built Spell Shield to fix the imbalance. We combined high-level technical expertise with a social-enterprise model, creating a partner that can defend a corporate network just as fiercely as it defends a community centre.

To make strong security affordable for the organisations that can least afford to go without it.

What you can hold us to
Anyone can publish values. These are written as things we could be caught breaking.
We will
- We’ll tell you when we’re wrong.
- Security work involves judgement calls, and some don’t survive contact with reality. When we get one wrong you’ll hear it from us first, with what we’re doing about it.
- Visibility is a vulnerability.
- We treat your identity and our own stack as information worth protecting. The less the outside world knows about your defences, the harder they are to break.
- We’ll explain it in language you can act on.
- If an explanation only makes sense to an engineer, it isn’t finished. You get the reasoning behind every recommendation in terms you can take to a board or a funder.
- We’ll price it so the answer is never “we couldn’t afford to”.
- Protection gets scaled to what an organisation can actually carry. That is the point of building this as a social enterprise.
