Modern Slavery Statement
Introduction and Commitment
Spell Shield Pty Ltd (hereafter referred to as “Spell Shield”) is an Australian Managed Services Provider (MSP) specialising in cyber security solutions. Spell Shield operates as a social enterprise, committed not only to providing excellent cyber security services but also to contributing positively to the community. As part of this commitment, we regularly provide free services and heavily discounted products to nonprofit organisations.
Spell Shield is committed to conducting our business ethically and with integrity. We recognise the severe and abhorrent nature of modern slavery and human trafficking, and we are committed to taking steps to ensure that modern slavery is not present in our business operations or supply chains. This statement sets out Spell Shield’s commitment to understanding and addressing modern slavery risks.
Organisational Structure and Operations
Spell Shield is a small company operating within South Australia, providing cyber security products and services. Our team is comprised of a small team and operates with flexibility.
Supply Chains
Our primary supply chain involves the procurement of cyber security software licenses. Our key suppliers are established and reputable global technology companies, including but not limited to CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, Microsoft, and Google. We partner with these providers as we expect them to uphold high ethical standards and to have policies and procedures in place to address modern slavery within their own operations and broader, complex global supply chains.
While we recognise that the technology sector, like many industries, faces potential risks of modern slavery within its extensive global supply chains, we believe that partnering with established and reputable providers is a significant step in mitigating these risks within our specific business context.
Risk Assessment and Due Diligence
Given the nature of our business as a small MSP and software reseller, we assess our direct operational risk of modern slavery to be low. We do not operate in industries with traditionally high risks of forced labour in direct operations, such as manufacturing or agriculture.
Our due diligence approach, which is proportionate to the size and nature of our organisation, focuses on:
- Supplier Selection: We prioritise partnerships with reputable software providers who are expected to operate ethically and address modern slavery within their businesses and supply chains.
- Employee Awareness and Whistleblower Policy: We are committed to raising awareness of ethical business conduct and modern slavery issues amongst our team. Our existing Whistleblower Policy, outlined in our Employee Handbook, provides a mechanism for our team members to raise any concerns, including those related to ethical business practices or human rights, without fear of reprisal.
- Ongoing Review: We are committed to reviewing and, where appropriate, enhancing our approach to addressing modern slavery as our business evolves and as we gain a deeper understanding of best practices in this area.
Actions Taken
To date, our actions to address modern slavery include:
- Issuing this Modern Slavery Statement as a formal acknowledgement of our commitment to ethical business practices and addressing modern slavery.
- Familiarising ourselves with the principles of the Australian Modern Slavery Act 2018 and committing to upholding its spirit within our business operations.
- Leveraging our existing Whistleblower Policy as a mechanism for raising concerns related to ethical conduct and human rights.
Future Steps and Continuous Improvement
Spell Shield Pty Ltd is committed to the ongoing review and improvement of our approach to addressing modern slavery. In the near future, we seek to:
- Continue to educate ourselves and our team on modern slavery risks and best practices, particularly within the technology sector’s supply chains.
- Review the effectiveness of this statement and our current approach on an annual basis.
As our business grows and evolves, consider further steps to enhance our due diligence and risk mitigation efforts in relation to modern slavery, proportionate to our size and risk profile.
