Customer data potentially compromised in the recent security incident at the global IT giant.
Japanese technology leader Fujitsu has announced a significant data breach after a malware attack compromised its internal systems. The company warns that sensitive customer information may have been stolen.
Fujitsu, one of the world’s largest IT service providers, boasts a global workforce of 124,000 employees and generates billions in annual revenue. The company offers a wide range of products and services, from computing solutions to cloud services and IT consulting. Fujitsu serves numerous industries worldwide and works closely with the Japanese government on key national security projects.
In a recent statement, Fujitsu acknowledged the presence of malware on internal systems and subsequent potential theft of personal and customer data. The company says it has isolated affected systems and is taking steps to bolster security measures.
“We are conducting a thorough investigation to understand the malware’s path and assess the extent of the data exfiltration,” the statement reads. While Fujitsu claims no known misuse of customer data at this time, the company has alerted appropriate authorities and is preparing to notify individuals affected by the breach.
Fujitsu is working to determine the full scope of the recent breach. Updates on the situation and any affected customers are expected in the coming days/weeks.
Remember 2021?
This isn’t Fujitsu’s first security incident. In 2021, attackers leveraged its ProjectWEB tool to infiltrate Japanese government agencies, stealing sensitive data, including details potentially related to airport operations. The breach highlighted vulnerabilities in the ProjectWEB system, which has since been replaced with stricter security protocols.
